Gambling works as entertainment when it stays that way. N1 runs deposit limits, reality checks and self-exclusion tools to help you stay in control, and this page explains what they do and where to turn when something feels off.
Why this matters
Most people who gamble do so without problems. A smaller group find that what started as a bit of fun has become something harder to manage – chasing losses, borrowing to play, or lying about how much time or money the habit takes. Recognising the shift early makes it easier to step back before real damage is done.
Warning signs
These behaviours suggest gambling is no longer entertainment:
- Spending more than you planned, repeatedly
- Chasing losses rather than accepting them
- Borrowing money to gamble or to cover losses
- Lying to friends or family about how much you play
- Gambling when you feel anxious, low, or stressed
- Neglecting work, relationships or responsibilities to play
Questions worth asking yourself
Six questions that flag a problem before it becomes one:
- Do you gamble until all your money is gone?
- Have you ever felt guilt or remorse after gambling?
- Do you return another day to win back losses?
- Has gambling caused you problems at home or work?
- Have you borrowed to gamble or to pay gambling debts?
- Has your interest in family or friends diminished because of gambling?
More than one yes is worth taking seriously.
The tools we offer
We provide deposit limits, reality checks and self-exclusion. A deposit limit caps how much you can add to your account over a set period – daily, weekly or monthly. Players in Germany are offered an individual monthly limit at registration, which must not exceed 1,000 EUR per month. Once set, the limit takes effect immediately and stays in place until you change it.
A reality check reminds you how long you have been playing. For players in Germany, a pop-up appears every hour showing elapsed time; after you acknowledge it, you must wait five minutes before continuing. The pause is short, but it breaks the rhythm.
Self-exclusion closes your account for a period you choose – six months, a year, or longer. During that time you cannot log in or reopen the account. If you have a balance remaining when you self-exclude, contact our support team at [email protected] to arrange withdrawal.
Practical limits
Five habits that keep gambling recreational:
- Decide your budget before you start, and stop when you reach it
- Set a time limit as well as a money limit
- Never gamble with money you need for bills, rent or food
- Do not chase losses – accept them as the cost of entertainment
- Take regular breaks, and spend time on other things you enjoy
